Haircut at Home

Ben is a good hair-grower. So every few weeks, I sit him down and trim around the edges.  This time, we went outside.

First, I dampen his hair.

I did look at a few library books on cutting children's hair and I usually pay attention on my yearly trip to the salon, but otherwise, I am learning experientially here.

If children's haircuts are $10, I figure I justified the cost of my $20 scissors and $3 cape months ago. If I ever feel like expanding my skills or changing Ben's haircut, my friend down the street has a clippers with attachments.  For now, Ben's hair is styled after his daddy's, who had a 1970s blonde mop when he was little.

I enjoyed sewing this fabric roll with pockets to hold all my haircutting equipment.  All I have to do is grab the boy, the spray bottle, and the roll.

(thanks to my husband for the photos)

Yes. I love cutting the boys hair outside! No little hairs all over the house to clean up! I like your roll too, so handy : ) Great Pictures!

What a cutie! Jamey cuts Sams hair. I cut Sadie and Jamey's hair and I go to a professional once or twice a year. I do worry a bit about whether or not my skills are good enough to keep cutting Jamey's hair. Not sure I'd want a pharmacist handing me drugs if he had an obviously shotty hair cut job. Okay, I guess my work isn't shotty, but you know?

I can't believe your husband had blonde hair as a child.

We have a clippers set which I use to butcher the boys' hair from time to time. I am not a natural when it comes to this haircutting gig. The professor is wise not to trust me with his head!

Cute pics and it is so nice to do these things ourselves when possible.

I buzz cut my husband every few weeks, but that's the only cutting I'm brave enough to attempt!

When we got married 14 years ago, we used a voucher we were given as a wedding present to buy a set of electric clippers, whic I still use to cut my husband's hair. We have saved sooooo much money! If only he could do mine, but I do have to go out in public!!

I cut my husband's hair once when we were newlyweds and it was awful. He has thick straight hair with strange cowlicks. I've offered to try again (think of the money we could save!!), but I don't think I'm getting a second chance.

DB, I know, isn't it strange?!

Beth, I also cut Genevieve's hair, but that's just a straight across trim.

What a beautiful cut. Well done! I read about mothers saving their child's hair from their first cut, but when I trimmed AG's bangs for the first time it was as she was running out the door. With a child that can't sit still, I somehow managed a decent trim with one well-aimed cut across the front. I admire (and envy) your organized utensils and cooperative children.

Punk, usually I sit the kids in front of a Youtube or a DVD. That elicits statue-like behavior.
You're such a rebel, combining running and scissors :)
