The problem is storing that odd creature, the Silpat. I made a patchwork bag, lined with linen. I'm trying to beat back my scraps, so everything I'm making right now is patchwork. But the Silpat sticks to the fabric, so it's not a easy slide in and out like I was thinking. But I like the bag so much that it's staying for now.
Any other storage solutions for a Silpat that you can tell me about?

I've had the same issue with storing my Silpat, and I love the idea of creating a bag. What about a rectangle of fabric that you can roll up around the mat & either tie or snap shut? Kind of like a portable placement.
This is clever, though I'm sorry to hear about the fabric sticking to the mat. I like Katherine's idea. You could also store the Silpat directly on baking sheet, and make a patchwork "placemat" to cover it so that it doesn't attract dust and such.
Love the bag! Maybe you could line it with something slippery like nylon/plastic type fabric?
I think we used an old paper towel tube to roll up and store our silpat. Worked pretty well! But yours is prettier!
Oh, the irony of a non-stick mat that sticks to the storage bag :)
If you put the mat into one of your remaining plastic bags (I know, I know!), it would likely slide into the cloth bag more easily.
Beautiful bag, by the way. I am gathering our unused and unwanted cotton garments to glean quilting squares from them. I have never quilted but your smaller pieces have opened my eyes to the possibilities in little projects.

Somewhere I came across the idea of storing silpats rolled up into paper towel tubes. I finally remembered to keep one and managed to get both my mats rolled up and into the tube without trouble. It does't seem to be a problem to get them in and out! I guess we'll have to see how long the tube holds up; your fabric solution is no doubt more durable!
Margo, how do you like the Silpat? I have pondered getting one. I'm also pondering getting a 'pizza stone' (my cookie sheet is getting pretty worn!). Any thoughts?
Polly, I've only used it once! But my best friend adores hers, so I'm going this route instead of a non-stick cookie sheet.
As for the pizza stone, I think we would like to get one, too. It would make such nice bread and pizzas. I guess people make cookies on stones, too.
Your patchwork is SO lovely. You have such a distinct style.
I just roll mine up and put a rubberband around it. Then put it in the drawer that holds the aluminum foil, plastic wrap boxes. It sits on top of them nicely.
I use my slip at everyday it's exactly like yours .to keep my food processor from jumping around on the counter and I do love the patchwork storer but i would have. Made it in vain
