I studied some jewelry rolls online. I nixed the velvet - once I tried to make a ruffle scarf with velvet and it slid and twisted so horribly that I threw it away. Yes, away.

That is a lovely roll - I like the colours you chose. I'm glad you mentioned about working with velvet. I was planning to sew some velvet and some velour items of recycled fabric, but will research now to see if there is some technique that will avoid the problem you had.
I didn't get started on Christmas presents soon enough this year, but I'm looking at doing some potholders for my mom and mom-in-law for mother's day. That should be enough time, I think :)

As for handmade Christmas gifts... I made two, not counting the loaves of homemade bread and pear preserves that we gave to friends and teachers.

A bit late, I know...but your work here is so well done. It's a wonderful gift. Did sis-in-law like it?
I did make a couple things for Christmas, myself: a knitted backpack-type purse for my older daughter. I lined it as well (I think they last longer, & just function more like a purse is supposed to). And for my younger daughter, a reversible apron, in her favorite colors. Both gifts were very well received! :o)
