So when the museum store manager-friend asked if I could provide more aprons, I said yes because I love color and aprons. It took me a while, but I got the aprons done just before Thanksgiving, in time for the holiday shopping rush, whew.
Previously, I had used the "Kitchen Gaiety" apron pattern of charming provenance, but I knew that in order to turn out aprons more quickly, I needed a simplified pattern. I was pleased with this retro Simplicity pattern, with one caveat: the small is quite small or else Genevieve, at 12, is the size of a small 1940s lady.

I find I don't have a lot of time for sewing either, but am thinking of taking some time off work between now & Christmas to do some.

Coincidentally, I have an apron project that I haven't managed to get started. It was going to be a Christmas gift for my daughter but... it might be for next year at this point. Lol.
The clothing industry did change the way they do sizing- I forget when, certainly after the '40s- so you are working with a very different sizing method. I believe a size 4-6 now would have been a 12-14 then!
Lorelei, it's probably not clear from the photo, but this is a modern pattern based on a retro style, so I expected the sizing to be modern.
I love them, in fact I think I prefer them to the Kitchen Gaiety aprons.
I need to make an apron, I just need to find time to do it. My sewing is nowhere as accomplished as yours so it does take me a while to psych myself up... I also rarely sew to a pattern so it's doubly intimidating!
You have two very photogenic models there. And the aprons are lovely. I know what you mean about immersing in a craft or piece of handwork. It is so engaging and rewarding.
Oh Margo, I just love your a vintage/retro apron. Nothing says domesticity like a vintage apron.(smile) My housemaids uniform includes an apron of vintage style. Alas, plain white not as stunning as your H back creation. But, it is so nice it needs its own APRON to keep it clean. lol
