Scrappy Trippin' Around the World

Each block looks nutty on its own, but then, I lay them out together and ahhh!  Pools of calm and sparks of energy!  I am hooked.  Good thing, too, because I want to do about 30 more blocks for a queen-sized quilt.  I started this quilt in November, and am only dawdling along.

  5. That does look super all together like that. I'm impressed, I love quilts using actual scraps. I had always seen that kind of quilt done only using large pieces done then sewn in strips and sliced and cleverly placed and resewn! Love that you're finding a way to make it work using your little and bigger pieces. Looks great!

  6. Shauna, yup, these are my actual scraps, but I start with 16x2.5" strips and then, yes, sew/cut/pick apart/sew to achieve these blocks. But my plan is to use only scraps I have while sticking to blues/greys/a little green and then the orange through the middle.

  7. This is coming along so well! How do you figure out how much of each kind of scraps you will need for an entire quilt? There must be some math involved but I hope not, for my sake :)

  8. Jenny_o, thank you! I have done math for quilts, but it's hard to figure out yardage. I prefer to go along as far as I can with my plan, and then get creative when I need more fabric. I have gotten scraps from friends, too, when I need them.

  10. It looks amazing. I am so impressed by people who quilt, having dabbled in it just enough to know how much energy goes into the planning, cutting, sewing. I treasure each quilt all the more as a result. Is the one for you? It is so striking! And I LOVE scrappy projects. You make some particularly great ones.
