Dill, Differently

Dill in okra pickles.  My husband made them and they were a hit - Genevieve requested them in her school lunch.

And, more oddly, dill in apple crisp!  I got the recipe here

I would call this more of a cobbler - I think of crisps as having a crunchy top.  I had made ice cream just in case the apple cobbler was a bomb, but it turned out to be delicious, although no one could guess the mystery flavor.

I don't think we ate these 2 dilly things in the same meal, but I don't exactly recall.

  1. Well, I'll be! I never would've thought that would be a success. The cobbler, I mean. Does the okra stay nice and crisp?

  2. Pretty crisp, but there's a trail of slime that can be a bit strange if you don't know okra.

  4. Do you have an apple crisp recipe that you usually use? Reb and I talk about this all the time.... She is always trying on this or that granola recipe for size.... or trying a new bread recipe or whatever. I stick with the sentimental favorites. I have my mother's apple crisp recipe which we love and I would have NEVER seen a recipe with dill in it and thought I needed to try it. I know I'm missing out on adventure and I'm glad your family enjoyed it.

  5. DB, I have an excellent apple crisp recipe that we love - it's a riff on a recipe from More with Less. It's my own, not the one I grew up with. I haven't forsaken it for the dill crisp - just enjoyed exploring a little. I adore new, weird recipes, but I have a repertoire of tried-and-true recipes too.
