Easiest party ever.
We reserved the space, announced the date and time, brought drinks and the ladies did the rest. They brought a pretty place setting, finger food, and decked themselves in pearls with stories.
Marilou served proper tea with a Chinese strainer, Rebecca made cranberry-mango punch with a fancy ice ring, I brought water (I did drop in sliced limes and mint sprigs).
I brought all my tea partyish linens, borrowed a bouquet from Sunday service. That was it.
The ladies kept thanking Marilou, Rebecca and me which made us laugh because the party was so lightly planned and easy. The lesson here is that we all love a party - we can dress up, eat charming food, and talk to people we care about.
Afterwards, at home, I got my husband to take some pictures so I could show you the fascinator I made. For less than a dollar using feathers and flowers from A's creative reuse shop and rhinestone buttons from my stash.
And this yellow dress is one Rebecca's mother found in her basement, a vintage dress Rebecca wore in college and surprisingly perfect on me because I'm bigger than Rebecca and thought I looked terrible in yellow.
I love the fascinator! I need to show it to my daughter.

I checked out your wikipedia link to "fascinator" and your looks MILES better than anything there. I think it needs to make another appearance in the near future.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Jo....my "pearls" were from a 2nd hand shop, the broken clasp replaced with a safety pin.
The party looks fun. And the dress is lovely, even in yellow!

Thanks for nipping over to my blog - and re the tahini, I have no idea why it's a salmonella risk, but the person that told me works in food safety, so I took her word for it (partly cos I wanted to prove that I could make my own - which is probably a salmonella risk too. hi Kelly - not all the ladies felt they had stories about their pearls. Some people have a natural flair for turning the smallest detail into a story, so we got the gamut. The unforgettable story: one of the women having necklaces stolen from her NECK not once, but TWICE, years apart.
ReplyDeleteOh Margo I am soooo sorry that I had to miss this delightful party b/c of other plans. I was so thrilled at the idea--starting planning my outfit-- when I checked the calendar and saw the conflict. I do so hope you'll do it again, even without Marilou. I'll help organize!
