We don't drive anywhere on June days, but we do walk downtown to run errands or go sledding in the park. Sometimes we have playdates with friends. We've cooked and baked together and I've been working on my job search, taxes, health insurance, and photo storage at the odd times I can snatch at the computer. We do not have cabin fever and we have plenty of projects yet to explore. In fact, one of my goals this week is to tidy up my sewing space because there are several interesting projects spread on top of each other and I work more effectively if my space is tranquil.
I'm happy with the weather - it's wintry as it should be in these parts, not like the mild, wet winters we've had for a few years. I'm not juggling a job with childcare, so altered schedules simply mean slower mornings and pajamas at home. When the kids fight, I send them outside, separate them, or get on the phone with a friend (using my lifeline - isn't that from a game show? My scant TV knowledge is showing.).

Are you at home because of bad weather? What are you doing?
Well, I didn't have to work today - my boss closed the library. Leila's recent post about food made me buy a few butternut squash, and now they're in the oven, roasting for another day. Or maybe today.

We haven't had any snow at all yet this year. Just mild, very wet and very windy. Although the roads out of our village often flood, we've been very lucky compared to those in the South West of the UK, some of whom have had flooded homes and villages since Christmas.

ReplyDeleteAh yes, it's snowing here too. But, since we home school it's much the same schedule as any other day. My littlest rushed through to get school done so he could go out and play in the snow : )

ReplyDeleteJune days...now that's one way to look at it! This winter might be beautiful, but it's getting a bit long for us. Everything takes longer when there's snow, ice or cold temps, and the kids growl at us for making them work on "their days off"! But this summer, we'll wish for the colder temps again, won't we? :)
ReplyDeleteWe live in South Carolina so June Days are pretty few here. Our son in Boston has had plenty of days at home lately. I am a stay at home wife and my adjustment lately is having my husband home on disability because he had a heart attack. We are in our 4th week and finally settling into the routine. Our forecast is saying that things 'could get interesting' on Friday without any details yet. It is okay since we don't have anywhere to go right now.
ReplyDeleteSeriously I have no idea how many snow days we have had! It's bad enough that my 4 year old now expects his older sisters to stay home and play with him. I'm sure he will pout today! Cracks me up when children ask questions like Ben's.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get cabin fever, either! I work pretty much exactly how you do...except for the getting on the phone part. I do not like chatting on the phone! The kids just play (or help work) like usual, whether it be outside or inside. And I do my normal thing...sew, cook, clean, etc, with the odd snow-man-making-session thrown in. Personally I love winter. I'd rather be inside than out any time of year. I know I'm strange...

ReplyDeleteIn Canada we have a certain number of snow days allowed in the year before they must be made up. Is it that way in the US also?
I used to love snow days when my kids were in school and I wasn't working. No hurrying, no schedule, no going out four times a day (we lived too far to walk with heavy knapsacks and too close for bus service, and the cafeteria was available only to bus students). But I think some of the allure was that it didn't happen very often - compared to this winter, when there have been so many days off.

ReplyDeleteI remember when my kids were home, a and we got snow days..It was wonderful ..we totally enjoyed them.. But as you said, making them up in the summer is no fun.lol
