Counting

For the 100th day of school, Genevieve's kindergarten class had a 100s party.  She was required to bring 100 objects, grouped so they could be easily counted.


She was thrilled to root through my buttons. 


All Genevieve wants to do these days is count or have someone count with her - the rhythm enchants her.  Now she counts up to 500.  I miss conversations with her. Maybe she'll be satisfied with her mastery when she reaches 1000?

    My two boys truly enjoyed doing the same thing...taking my button jar and counting away for hours. It kept them busy and I always knew where they were :)

    Love the idea of using buttons, how perfect!

    That cracks me up. Maybe 1,000 will be the magic number. Or 1,000,000--that will keep her occupied for a while. I'm impressed with her patience in counting so much! I think children revel in learning something like that, so new and so useful!

    That's funny. Enjoy the quiet!!!
    My older girls use to pretend my button box was full of skaters. Each buttong was a skater and they did precision skating or buttoning however you looked at it. Anyway kept them quiet and busy so i could sew.

    The button sorting and counting reminds me of the button necklace that Laura and Mary Ingalls made for their sister Carrie.

    She'll stop counting eventually and move on to something else that isn't conversation.
