The Orange Wrap

I was commissioned to make this shawl wrap for a friend who is getting married.  It needed to be orange and whimsical.  I experimented with what I secretly call "messy applique" - the pieces are stitched on with loopy, multiple stitch lines and the raw edges all hang out.  It has a fresh look that I'm falling in love with, although it was not as fast or simple as I thought it would be. 


I am, however, pleased with this wrap.  I had three days to execute it and that included shopping for the fabric with children in tow.. . children who are starting to catch on that the fabric store is a "treat" only for mommy.

    I wonder where you have been. The shawl is beautiful. You did a fantastic job...like always!

    Do you remember going to fabric stores with your mom? I do. Hated it. Now I torture my kids with it.

    Farmgirl, my mom didn't sew, but she took me because I begged her to and she had hired a church lady to teach me (because I begged!). I think my mom was the tortured one while I crept through the racks, changing my mind and getting lost in visions.

    Kylie always wanted to choose a spool of thread when we went to the fabric store. To this day, I have a fine collection of "purkle fred". It pleases me to see it in the drawer. Your shawl is lovely!

    The first thing I thought when your blog loaded was I LOVE THAT! The orange is wonderful! Yes, very fresh. Your lucky friend! Did you use a pattern or just freewheel it?

    Polly, no pattern; I did the applique on two long rectangles and then sewed them together. Easy! The colors are the eye-catcher, not the construction.
