How I Put Up My Hair

When I posted pictures of my sea-green dress, you all zeroed in on my hair and asked how I put it up.  Some of you even went so far as to ask for a tutorial.  Listen, I am a teacher by nature and I love teaching, but online tutorials are not the same as teaching and I'm a little out of my element.

But I scheduled my annual hair cut for next week, which forced me to decide if I was going to attempt a tutorial for you or not.  I enlisted Genevieve to hold my phone as I stood in front of the bathroom mirror and put up my hair, and we went for it. You can imagine that Ben's trombone practice in the background is the soundtrack, ok?

So that this feels more like teaching to me, please tell me if you tried to follow my directions and, better yet, if you have a blog, post a photo and link in the comments.  Or, instead, tell us all how you get your hair up and off your face.

Yay! I'm experimenting right now. It's sloppy (no big barrette, more pins), but so far it's staying up. I think with more practice....

I've just taken to keeping mine short (above the shoulders) as I just can't deal with long hair anymore. It drives me nuts. When I do let it get long enough to pull back, it's a ponytail - or two!

Yes I do the same thing I went to a layered shoulder length cut several years ago since I was tired of dealing with longer hair

It's been awhile since I had long hair because I couldn't figure out how to do something like this! Wish I'd had the knowledge then. This is a great video; kudos to the star, the videographer and the background musician :)

Now that I have a shorter (chin-length) cut, I still want to keep my hair out of my eyes, so I just section a piece on the top (about 3-4 inches across) and fasten it back on the crown of my head with two non-slip barrettes. It looks better than it sounds. I think. I can't stand having my hair falling into my eyes, and bangs were too hot when I was going through menopause! For special occasions I'll leave it unclipped but I'm always glad to get home and clip it back again.

I have very short hair and have had for years. My hair just doesn't grow very long and is so fine it would need lots of attention if it was longer.

I enjoyed the video, I do something similar nearly everyday, same type of twist but secured with one of those claw kind of clips, up & down. On Friday I tried your method and wore it to town, but it didn't have the same effect as yours as my hair is a bit shorter, and thinner than yours. Nice to try something a bit different! I also don't get my hair cut very often.

That's a brilliant tutorial! I'm totally hopeless with hair, but it's in dire need of a cut, so I'm going to whizz upstairs in search of a clip in my daughters room ( she's at uni). Only have a few minutes as I'm off to school, (supply teacher) and off out to the ballet after school. Will try to pop by tomorrow to tell you how it went ! PennyL in Dorset U.K

I've never been successful with clips, but have always wanted to move away from just using elastic pony tail bands. I wonder if I even have a clip to play around with now.... I am keen to give it a go.

Sidenote: I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your voice! And G's! And Ben's trombone!
