A Summer Work Dress

This is a comfortable, breezy dress for summer work, and I mostly like how it looks.  I do really love the perky red flowers on the deep turquoise.

The bias tape binding the neckline and armholes gives it the look of a housedress, which I'm not fond of.  And despite measuring myself and the pattern pieces, I think I should have gone down a size which would have taken care of the weird floppy fabric at the top of the placket. I also added some back shoulder darts to help the fit.

But the dress came together quickly and is a cinch to throw on and tear into the work.  Lots of preserving work this time of year.

I'm seriously amazed that you can make a dress for yourself. It's lovely, and I always love your fabric choices.

I love it! I also own that fabric--it hasn't been made into anything yet, though!

I agree that bias tape = housedressy which is not always a bad thing, but that's why I use self-bias for everything (well, when I'm not just changing the pattern and lining it, which also happens). At first it seemed like a colossal pain to make my own bias tape, but I have since settled into thinking that it's Fun. I use my little bias tape maker and the iron and off we go.....!!

Your dress is cute and perfect for summery work!

It's very cute and I for one, am a fan of house dresses. I am currently in dire need of a few new ones.

I have a top that has the same problem, for the same reason -- that bit of gaping at the neckline. It has snaps so I can't do what I'm going to suggest for your dress, which is to move the buttons slightly toward the left. Or have you thought of that and feel it won't work? (For my top, which has a placket in which the snaps are seated, I plan to just take out the seams on either side and resew.)

I love the dress style and the material and the red sweater looks excellent with it!

The brightly painted toenails go perfectly with the dress too! :)

It looks so lovely on you! I got this pattern last summer but haven't used it yet, you've inspired me to try it.
