Snapshots from a Modern Blizzard

Plenty of time to sew new boots for Phoebe.  I felted a thrift store sweater vest, and this time I added some calico toes and rick rack.

Genevieve deeply desired to make snow candy.  I sicced her on her father.

He would like it put on the record that he got up off the sofa, out of a nap, to indulge her.

There's a sidewalk under there.  The city imposed a travel ban which made for even deeper silence and peace.

I am messing around with yeasted coffee cakes currently.  This has a strawberry filling and a cream cheese drizzle.

Oh look, our very own chocolate covered strawberry!

And whoops, this is the result of the snow candy the morning after.  It all melted.  Wonder if the snow will. . .

I also love that chocolate covered strawberry. So cute. How many inches did you get, Margo?

Snow candy! We used to make it when I was a girl, and I have no idea how to do it. Do I see a jar of molasses in your husband's hands?

Those are the cutest little boots for your baby girl. They will keep her feet toasty warm:)

I love the chocolate covered strawberry too :)

And the boots are SO cute - the fabric and rickrack are just perfect on the toes!

Your chocolate covered strawberry doesn't look very impressed with the snow!

I was wondering how you'd been affected by the snow- we've seen pictures on the news.
My children would love some snow. We didn't have any at all last year and after a few years of at least one decent (for us) snowfall, they'd like some more! My youngest has plans for snow candy and snow cones if we ever get any.

Lisa, our neighbor said we got 26" inches. I haven't seen the official report. There was so much drifting and blowing that I would have guessed 18".

Alica, they used the recipe in Laura Ingalls Wilder's cookbook. It involved boiling molasses and brown sugar to the hard ball stage and then drizzling it on snow. But something didn't work right because look at how the candy dissolved after a few hours!

Thanks for sharing this with us. No blizzards out here in Montana, frankly there is little snow at all, really. I sure enjoy your husband's kindness, even in mid-nap--a true testament of love! (And the photo of it, too, of course!) Stay warm and cozy--I am sure you will!

Margo! These photos are magical. I wanted you to know I'm still here, lurking, checking in on you and yours. I've enjoyed watching Baby grow and reading your thoughts on life and creating and homemaking. Thanks!!

Love to you!

I like cold weather, but I do not envy the snow. Looks like you made the most of it and got in some quality family time.

Ha ha ha....the picture of your husband getting up to make snow candy. I know the feeling.
