The 1970s Plaid Blouse

This is what I did for myself when the stress was overwhelming me this Christmas:  I made myself a shirt out of a plaid that I love.  It's a black watch plaid shot with red; I can wear it with any shade of blue or green, and even black, and it makes my eyes look blue.  I want to wear it with a bit of lace at the neck, too.  It looks fab with my skinny jeans.  It is the Shirt of the Year in my wardrobe!

"Loose-fitting top has shaped front yoke, front neckline slith with applied band, full-length sleeves gathered into buttoned cuffs, standing or pointed collar, and topstitch trim." Butterick 4491

The fabric and pattern were both given to me out of peoples' overflowing stashes.  So this blouse cost me the thread, the 2 vintage silver buttons, and my time.

Creative satisfaction for pennies!

I love that shirt!! The plaid is awesome. Have I mentioned how amazed I am at your ability to sew clothes and have them look so good? :)

It's lovely to put on a garment that you look and feel good in - doubly so when you've created it. I really liked clothing in the 70's, especially the tops, and this is a good example. Indigo eyes, yes!

Super cute! Impressed that you made it. I don't know how to do anything like that and it would be so awesome to know how. That would look adorable with a pencil skirt too if you wanted to dress up for an outing. Versatile! Yes! ;-)

This looks GREAT. I love it!!!! Well done. I have not tried a shirt yet....probably won't for a few years. I find the idea rather intimidating, but your result was wonderful.

I like your hair!

Yesterday my daughter surprised me with the soft, sumptuous, perfectly stitched picnic-napkins-with-pockets you made. Just lovely.

They kind of match those red jeans of yours. Hm, now you'll wish you'd hung on to my birthday present.

Thank you Margo, thank you Jennifer.

PS Give details on your shoes in these photos, if you will! Are they shiny flats?? I have been wanting to get my hands on some shiny flats! I love the bright trousers w/ the shoes/shirt.

Polly, they are patent vinyl (!) navy flats with a little buckle on the front. Got them at JCPenney's this past spring. They are super cute because they can be dressy OR worn with my dark blue skinny jeans. I like to wear them with very pale tan hose which makes them show up (and navy hose would be so hard to match! Navies are hard to match so I don't try too hard - that's a black belt I'm wearing).
