I just thought the utilitarian denim knee patches needed a little whimsy, so I appliqued the flannel scraps of owls on top. Ben says they're playing peek-a-boo. I'm so glad I got a picture when he put his shoes on by himself, bless him.
One day I was mending the knees of one of my granddaughter's jeans. She had some outgrown jeans with nifty looking pockets, so I cut the pockets off of those and used them on the knees of the pair I was mending. Voila! It looked really nice!
I am a wife and mother of two. I am a stay-at-home mom, part time cookbook editor, a Mennonite, and a city dweller. I like to make things (see the blog categories below). This blog is a record of what I make and the ways I try to be thrifty. Welcome!

"Thrift is the really romantic thing; economy is more romantic than extravagance...thrift is poetic because it is creative; waste is unpoetic because it is waste...if a man could undertake to make use of all the things in his dustbin, he would be a broader genius than Shakespeare."

VERY cute! Owls are always so appropriate, don't you think? Love the shoes :)
Great idea. I love how kids that age have no qualms about wearing patched clothes. Or mismatched clothes. I like the idea of fun patches!
The shoes!!!! Good for you, making patches fun.
I just love this with a passion unspeakable. I LOVE IT!!!
