Birthday Treats

My birthday was in March and I like to arrange treats for myself.

I went to a museum to see antique Amish and Mennonite quilts.

I read my sweet new vintage paperback, The Nutmeg Tree, by Margery Sharp all afternoon. ($2 from the library book sale) It's my definition of a satisfying romance - sharp prose, some food and dress details, dimensional characters, and a tidy ending.

And dinner out (sans children - thanks H&J!) with my husband, parents and sis, eating fabulous Pittsburgh salads: beef tips with fries and coleslaw on top of the greens.

There were other treats, undocumented, that my loved ones gave me: books, apple caramel tart, extra babysitting to go thrifting, a little surprise birthday party complete with cupcakes and candles. It was a wonderful way to turn 35.

Some of the thank you cards I made to send out. . .

Sigh... a lovely day. I like the way you do birthdays.

Beef tips, fries, and coleslaw on top of a salad... really?!

Thank you for offering the preemie clothes, I so appreciate that. I was a small baby and my mom saved my little day gowns so that is what baby is wearing now, as well as night gowns. We have just enough items to keep her looking cute!

Happy birthday--the quilt exhibitions sound wonderful (the first one you show in the photo is absolutely amazing!)

Christian, I really love that salad, but it is a little over the top!

SIF, the first photo was my attempt to capture the exquisite, perfect embroidery on the crazy quilt (even though I was allowed to take some photos, the docent didn't want me to get too close). It renewed my desire to have or make a crazy quilt - such richness and texture.

Where did you get the idea for those sweet amazing cards?! I'm going to be looking around for a belated birthday gift to give you so I can earn one...

That card idea would also be fun with dresses...

A, because I wanted to use up my little scraps somehow and my mind started turning beyond the little bird card you gave me. Don't worry - I'll make you one!
And dresses - oh boy! Now I'm really designing in my head. . .
